Notice: Facebook closing cosplay accounts

Today many cosplayers found that their cosplay specific facebook accounts had been closed. Most of these include the word “cosplay” in the account name, for example “purpleduck cosplay”. Legitimate accounts and cosplay pages are fine.

The closing of these accounts is likely due to the fact that they breach facebook’s terms of service by not using a real name / being a secondary account.

Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account:

  1. You will not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than yourself without permission.
  2. You will not create more than one personal account.

One of Facebook’s main priorities is the comfort and safety of our members. Your account was disabled for violating the Facebook Terms.

  • You account must list your real, full name.
  • Impersonating anyone or anything is not allowed.
  • Facebook profiles (timelines) must represent individual people only. It’s a violation of these guidelines to use a profile (timeline) to represent anything other than yourself (ex: celebrities, pets, ideas, objects).
  • Accounts created for the purpose of spamming or harassing others are strictly prohibited.

If you have a cosplay only account you should check to see if it is still online, and if it involves cosplay in the name you may want to change the name of the account. You may also want to save photos or anything else that you don’t want to lose in case your account is closed randomly.

It’s not easy being desaturated

at least according to a wonderful blog post about appearing desaturated while in costume. You can check out the post on Brodyqat’s Blog by clicking here. The effect is a good way to stand out as a popular character! It can also be used to pull off manga versions, extremely old cartoons / television shows, and black and white characters such as Timless River Sora below!

All they wanted for christmas was a gravity gun

According to Volpin Prop’s facebook his Gravity Gun prop (which was his most recent project) sold at auction for $21,000! The auction was for Child’s Play, a charity that brings gamers together to provide games and toys for children in hospitals. If you would like to learn more about this amazing charity or make a donation you can check it out at

You can oggle some photos of the prop at Volpin Prop’s blog but if you insist on a teaser…

Cosplay Impersonator

This isn’t the first time there have been cosplay impersonators out there, I have seen at least a couple of the more well known cosplayers posting that “this isn’t me” in regards to fake profiles or stolen photos being used to sell items on e-bay. Though this is definitely one of the more extensive attempts I have seen. Most people don’t go farther than claiming photos of someone else as themselves, but this girl(?) has built an entire persona using stolen photos!

The name is “Heather Mikayle” who has several sites and pages out there (a google search of the name can bring up facebook, twitter, google+, formspring, a personal website and so much more). She also has extremely detailed information on her pages and photo descriptions, it is pretty believable especially with fake movie credits. I don’t think I would have been able to tell if I wasn’t warned before visiting!
